Shell, Aker BP cut short Maersk rig contracts

Maersk Drilling has received notice of early termination of two offshore contracts.

LYNGBY, Denmark – Maersk Drilling has received notice of early termination of two offshore contracts.

Shell subsidiary BG International has terminated the contract for the semisubmersible Mærsk Developer with immediate effect, four months ahead of the scheduled conclusion.

Aker BP has terminated the contract for the jackup Maersk Reacher to provide accommodation services on the Valhall field in the southern Norwegian North Sea, taking effect from end of this month.

The rig had been due to come off hire in October.

In both contracts, Maersk Drilling expects to receive early termination fees as compensation.
