VANCOUVER, Canada – Africa Energy Corp. expects Odfjell Drilling’s semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger to sail this month for South Africa.

Last July, Total contracted the rig for a multi-well campaign on South Africa’s offshore block 11B/12B, to follow up on the Brulpadda light oil and gas condensate discovery on the same concession in February 2019.

The Deepsea Stavanger is due to spud the first well on the Luiperd prospect in the Paddavissie Fairway, with the campaign targeting various de-risked submarine fan prospects with substantial prospective resources, Africa Energy said.

However, the timing may depend on the pace of the spread of the global coronavirus.

The company is also working to close offshore block 2B farm-outs where the next exploration well, Gazania-1, should spud by the end of 2020.

Block 2B’s prospective resources are in shallow water close to shore, and include the A-J1 discovery from 1988 that flowed light sweet crude to surface.

The Gazania-1 well will target two prospects in what is said to be a relatively low-risk rift basin oil play up-dip from A-J1.
