HOUSTON – VAALCO Energy has proven more oil with its latest appraisal well in the Etame Marine permit offshore Gabon.
The South East Etame 4P wellbore was drilled from the South East Etame North Tchibala (SEENT) platform to a TD of 6,311 ft (1,923 m). It encountered around 20 ft (6.1 m) of good-quality Gamba oil sands, with similar reservoir quality to the South East Etame 2H well.
VAALCO estimates the resource in this newly proven area at 1-2 MMbbl. Preparations have now started for drilling the South East Etame 4H development well, with initial production rates expected to be 1,200-2,500 b/d.
The company then plans to use the contracted rig to perform additional workovers to pre-emptively replace electrical submersible pumps that are nearing the end of their design lives.
