EDINBURGH, UK – Cairn Energy is participating in two current exploration wells in the Sureste basin offshore Mexico, the company revealed in an operations update.

One is its operated Bitol-1 well in block 9 and the other on the Eni-led Saasken-1 in block 10.

After completing the two programs the semisubmersible VALARIS 8505 will drill the Eni-operated Ehecatl-1 well in block 7 (Cairn 30%).

Offshore Suriname, Cairn is interpreting 4,500 km (2,796 mi) of processed 2D seismic data acquired in 2019 over block 61. Depending on its findings, the company will decide whether to commission new 3D seismic later this year, followed by potential drilling.

In the UK North Sea, development drilling should start on the two Catcher Area satellite oil fields, Catcher North and Laverda, in mid-2020, along with an additional Vardero production well.

Two more wells, a producer and injector pair, are scheduled to be drilled on the Worcester accumulation on the western flank of the Kraken field. These will be tied into the FPSO and onstream before year-end.
