LONDONQatargas has awarded Element Materials Technology a five-year materials testing and failure analysis services contract.

Element’s laboratory in Qatar will perform the mechanical testing and metallurgical analysis, with other divisions/laboratories in the Middle East, Italy, UK, the Netherlands, and Singapore providing further services.

Work onsite and offsite will involve internal and external examination of pipework and pressure valves that have been operating in demanding conditions.

In addition, Element will undertake metallurgical verification of the material condition alongside chemical and corrosion testing.

Mechanical testing could include routine fracture toughness work to confirm the durability of material and joints under low temperature conditions.

Also covered under the agreement are concrete, polymer/elastomer and coating testing, and microbiological analysis.

Failure analysis projects are essential in establishing a root cause to minimize asset downtime, and are a vital component of any health, safety, and environment program.
