DUNDEE, UK – Offshore Decommissioning Services (ODS) plans to open its UK headquarters in Dundee, eastern Scotland early next year.
The company, formed in 2017, will initially focus on upcomingdecommissioning programs in the North Sea, later expanding to global operations.
It is currently building a UK flagged multi-purpose heavy-lift vessel to be namedMoonraker 1, which should be delivered in 2021. This is designed for single lifts of topsides up to 30,000 metric tons (33,069 tons) and jackets and subsea infrastructure up to 12,000 metric tons (13,228 tons).
TheMoonraker 1, which will be manned by a crew of 70, will also provide pipeline and bundle removal and offshore installations.
The company plans to establish a supporting engineering and logistics hub in Dundee which is close to many UK North Sea fields and associated offshore, with an on-site supply chain and access to a skilled workforce, ODS claims, in local universities and colleges.
Lee Johnson, the company’s chief executive, said: “It is ODS’ ambition to reduce the cost and time to decommission topsides, substructures and subsea infrastructure and we believe ODS, working with others in Dundee, can bring a holistic and commercially attractive decommissioning solution to the industry.”
Callum Falconer, chief executive of Dundeecom, added: “With other complementary businesses already located in Dundee including Augean, Wellsafe Services and Oilmac, and with the Port of Dundee already providing an unrivaled location, space and infrastructure, we are without doubt establishing Dundee as the UK decommissioning hub.”
