ST. LOUIS, MissouriRepsol has entered an alliance with Emerson to implement subsurface geophysical technologies that can trim the time taken to explore for and produce first oil.

The core technologies are being developed by Repsol as part of its 10-year Kaleidoscope innovation project, combining what Emerson describes as the latest in high-end visualization, high-performance computing and cloud delivery.

Repsol has used some of the advances to deliverexploration successes offshore Brazil.

The partners plan joint investment in R&D to produce commercially available software products for license to other oil field operators and service companies.

Under the first-phase program the focus will be on velocity determination, including full waveform inversion, and on seismic imaging solutions developed in the Repsol Technology Laboratory.

The collaboration could later be extended to a broader range of Repsol’s subsurface technologies.

Emerson’s E&P software integrates and forecasts oilfield data with production and reservoir engineering data, with the company’s cloud-based platform designed to help operators increase efficiencies and improved investment returns from both new and established oil and gas reservoirs.
