GDI liftboat to support Qatar platforms

DOHA, Qatar – Dolphin Energy has contracted Gulf Drilling International Ltd. (GDI) for liftboat services offshore Qatar.

GDI’s self-propelled jackup unit will provide accommodation, maintenance and platform support to the DOL 1 and DOL 2 platforms, starting in January and continuing through April 2014, with an option for an eight-month extension.

This is GDI’s first liftboat contract. The company expects demand for this type of service to grow offshore Qatar.

Recently GDI, better known as a drilling contractor, added ajackup accommodation barge to its fleet, and won an $82-million contract from another operator off Qatar for use of the vessel.

GDI hopes to bring in further jackup accommodation barges to keep up with the growing need for this service in the Middle East region.
