GE expands Middle East wellhead, control manufacturing

DAMMAM, Saudi ArabiaGE Oil & Gas (NYSE: GE) has started work on a new manufacturing complex in Second Industrial City in Dammam.

A new 9,500-sq m (102,257-sq ft) building is expected to be completed by December. The aim is to expand the manufacturing capability and operations of the nearby existing Pressure Control facility, which is certified to API and ISO quality.

The expansion should lead to more than 100 openings for Saudi engineers,GE says, and accelerate deliveries of equipment such as wellheads and valves for the upstream oil and gas sector.

The Pressure Control plant employs more than 85 people. It provides wellhead manufacturing, pressure control equipment, and other technologies for clients includingSaudi Aramco.

Under a partnership with Saudi Aramco Entrepreneurship Center (Wa’ed), GE is also working to allow local SMEs to provide components for the manufacturing of wellheads.

Recently the company announced plans to expand the capabilities of its Manufacturing Technology Center in Dammam to manufacture the company’s largest gas turbines.
