HOUSTONBristow Group has completed a helicopter flight to an offshore operation in the UK sector using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The aircraft flew from Aberdeen to installations operated by bp.

As part of its relationship with Air bp, Bristow used the grade Jet A-1/SAF, certified to Jet A1 standards on a Bristow S-92 aircraft, for demonstration purposes.

It plans further flights over the next fortnight that could lead to SAF being offered as an option to all the company’s clients.

Jet A-1/SAF is said to comply with Defence Standard 91-091 and ASTM D1655 standards for aviation turbine kerosene.

The blend supplied is 35% SAF and the SAF component is said to provide a lifecycle carbon reduction of around 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.
