EDINBURGH, UKCairn Energy expects to spud its first exploration well as operator offshore Mexico this summer.

The company has lined up two wells in shallow water in block 9 during 3Q and 4Q. Elsewhere, it will participate in drilling on offshore block 7, scheduled to start in 3Q.

Offshore Suriname, a 4,150-km (2,578-mi) 2D survey is under way over acreage wholly owned by the company, and another 2D campaign is planned off Côte d’Ivoire this summer (Cairn 30%).

In UK and Norwegian waters, the company will drill up to four exploration wells in 2019 across a variety of play types.

The Presto well (Cairn 30%) is set to spud soon, with operated wells likely to follow over 3Q on the Lynghaug, Godalen, and Chimera structures.

In addition, the company is targeting sanction for various discoveries identified as potential subsea tiebacks to the Premier Oil-operated Catcher infrastructure in the UK central North Sea.

And evaluation will continue of development options for last year’sAgar discovery in the same region to determine commerciality and the broader exploration potential. Cairn has an option to take operatorship of Agar.
