SHARJAH, UAE – Fabricator Lamprell has issued an update on its offshore activities in its latest results statement.

Earlier this year the company finalized an exclusive jackup rig design in collaboration with GustoMSC.

The LJ43 rig features a customized hull and living quarters developed by Lamprell and GustoMSC’s proprietary leg design, and it is targeted at the Middle Eastern market.

International Maritime Industries (IMI) and its client ARO Drilling have selected the LJ43 design as the base for the 20 jackups which will be built at the IMI yard in Ras Al Khair, eastern Saudi Arabia.

To date in 2018 the company has completed refurbishment of 21 rigs and is currently working on two more, way up on the seven refurbishment projects it completed in 1H 2017.

Some of the projects have resulted in increased work scopes.

The newbuild jackup market remains largely inactive, but for the first time in four years Lamprell is starting to see niche opportunities.

Construction is progressing of the major IMI maritime yard in Saudi Arabia, and the complex is due to be fully commissioned in 2022.

The first two of the 20 newbuild jackup rigs will likely be contracted in late 4Q: Lamprell is set to perform the majority of works on the first two rigs at its facilities in the UAE. Basic engineering for the project is under way.

Pre-qualification continues for Saudi Aramco’s long-term agreement program covering offshore EPCI contracts of more than $3 billion annually. Lamprell’s bid is at an advanced stage.

Earlier this year the company established Lamprell Saudi Arabia, a joint venture with our local partner. It has also formed a team to assess requirements for digital technology and big data in the oil and gas market and is reviewing partnership options in this field.
