BILLINGSTAD, Norway – iSURVEY has completed a positioning program for a Norske Shell drilling campaign offshore Norway.

The project, which took place last month onboard the semisubScarabeo 8, involved the contractor providing survey support remotely from its Oslo headquarters.

This, iSURVEY claims, was the first time remote positioning had been tried for a regular DP drilling rig move operation on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Initially the survey equipment was mobilized on board the rig, and then operated from Oslo, where the surveyors could follow maneuvers as required by the operator.

Logging of final position was performed through the iCONTROL solution, with a direct communication line also used between the control room and the bridge on theScarabeo 8.

iSURVEY said benefits to the project included reduced HSSE exposure and decreased logistics, both of which resulted in significant cost savings for the operator.
