PERTH, Australia – Carnarvon Petroleum says there are indications of hydrocarbons in the Dorado-1 exploration well offshore Western Australia.
The well has drilled down to around 4,044 m (13,268 ft) MD in 8-1/2-in. hole.
From 3,853-3,947 m (12,641-12,949 ft) MD, logging while drilling indicated that the well encountered numerous sandstone intervals (as expected) within the Caley Member.
Elevated gas readings and increased resistivity were observed in interpreted porous and permeable zones, which also suggest the presence of hydrocarbons.
Currently the rig is preparing to run a suite of wireline logging tools to obtain more definitive results.
On completion of this program the well will be deepened to assess the Milne and Crespin Members, beneath the Caley Member, with an option to run a further casing string if needed to reach the final depth.
Dorado-1 well is less than 20 km (12.4 mi) from and updip of the successfulRoc-1 and Roc-2 wells.
Carnarvon estimates that the structure at the Caley interval could hold 545 bcf of gas and 30 MMbbl of associated condensate.
