DALLAS – Kosmos Energy is P&A’ing its Anapai-1A exploration well in block 45 offshore Suriname.

The well, drilled to a TD of 4,556 m (14,947 ft), was designed to test lower Cretaceous reservoirs in a structural trap on the flank of the basin. During testing, it encountered high quality reservoirs in the targeted zones, but did not find hydrocarbons.

Chairman and CEO Andrew G. Inglis was philosophical about the result. “We are still in the early stages of exploring this newly emerging basin and our forward drilling program remains unchanged given the independent nature of the prospects,” he said.

“The drillship will next drill Pontoenoe, the first of up to three independent prospects in the block and within a similar play type toExxonMobil’s Turbot and Longtail discoveries 70 km [43 mi] to the west offshore Guyana.”

Chevron is the other partner in the block.
