ADELAIDE, Australia – Cooper Energy has contracted the Diamond Offshore semisubmersible Ocean Monarch for a drilling program offshore southeast Australia.
The program starts with a workover of theCasino-5 well in the Otway basin in March, followed by drilling of the Sole field production wells in the Gippsland basin.
Commencement of the campaign is pending receipt of final regulatory acceptance, including the rig’s Safety Case.
In addition, the rig may be deployed to abandon the defunct BMG offshore oil production facilities. This approach, Cooper said, would reduce the total costs of such abandonment compared with a separate campaign.
