ABERDEEN, UK – Faroe Petroleum has issued an update on the Brasse appraisal well, drilled by the semisubmersible Deepsea Bergen.
The Faroe-operated 31/7-2 S well, which reached at TD of 2,450 m (8,038 ft), was targeting a seismic anomaly 2 km (1.2 mi) southeast of last year’s31/7-1 discovery well.
It successfully penetrated the oil-water contact on the flank of the Brasse field and encountered around 8.5 m (27.9 ft) gross of oil-bearing Jurassic reservoir above the oil-water contact.
Analysis of coring, wireline logs, and pressure suggests the presence of oil in a good-quality sand-rich reservoir, the same oil-water contact as in the original discovery well and side track, and good pressure communication within the reservoir.
The partners have sanctioned a drillstem test to confirm well productivity, investigate reservoir distribution and to provide further information for planning a development project.
Pressure gauges to communicate with surface after the well has been P&A’d will also be installed in the appraisal well to provide long-term pressure monitoring of the reservoir.
Soon the partners will decide whether to drill a side track to the current well and a second appraisal well later this year (depending on analysis of the recent results).
Evaluation continues of the recently awarded Brasse Extension area, which Faroe also operates, ahead of a potential drilling decision.
Brasse is within tieback range of the Brage field platform and the Oseberg field center.
