Finning UK & Ireland has delivered six Cat C32B engines to Mainprize Offshore for its fleet of multi-role crew transfer vessels (CTVs) for the offshore wind sector.
The Cat C32Bs are said to provide 25% more power than the C32s in other Mainprize offshore vessels, also supporting operations in taller waves.
At present, the 1,600-bhp Cat C32 engines in Mainprize’s MO1 through MO8 vessels can maintain position at the turbine, allowing technicians to transfer to ladders on the turbine structure at a maximum significant wave height of 1.75mHs.
The 2,000-bhp Cat C32B engines, fitted to vessels MO9 onward, should permit safe transfers at more than 2 mHs significant wave height.
Bob Mainprize, director at Mainprize Offshore, said the vessels’ propellers and flow-aligned rudders combined with the Cat C32B engines’ fuel efficiency enable transit speeds of up to 26 knots “using just 80% power while maintaining optimal fuel consumption.”
Mainprize Offshore contracted Strategic Marine on Nov. 11, 2024, to construct six Supa Swath offshore transportation and support vessels, with an option to build six more.
