Deutsche Offshore (DO) will equip its offshore wind construction and commissioning service operation vessels with gangways and cranes provided by SMST.

The Telescopic Access Bridge (TAB-L2) gangway system and the 50-t offshore knuckle boom crane (KBC-L), with 3D motion compensating capability, are both said to be operable in harsh weather conditions.

The tower of the TAB-L2 gangway system provides an 18-m vertical stroke. According to DO, this should allow its vessels to offer full horizontal access from 12 m to 30 m above the waterline.

DO has chosen to fit the TAB-L2 with an automatic landing capability and a condition-based monitoring system. SMST’s smartTRACKER enables autonomous positioning and connecting of the gangway, said sales manager Jochem Tuinstra.

In construction configuration, the crane’s 50-t active heave-compensated lifting should allow the vessels to take on a wider range of tasks in offshore wind farm construction. In 3D motion compensation mode, the crane will be able to lift 10-t loads to a height of 30 m, with a live collision avoidance system providing added safety support.
