Crist Shipyard in Gdynia, Poland, has ordered winch systems and generating sets for the new Sea Dragon offshore support vessel, commissioned by DOF Group.
The ice-classed, 110-m long DP3 class ship, due to be delivered early in 2027, is designed to operate offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, eastern Canada. It will provide operations ranging from crew changes to drilling support, safety standby, emergency towing and ice management.
It is based on MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting’s MMC 995L SBC design. StoGda Ship Design & Engineering is responsible for working documentation and construction supervision during the construction program.
Winch system, lifeboats and life raft davits
Palfinger Marine will supply a fully electric, frequency-controlled winch system for anchoring, mooring, deck handling, towing and ice management.
The package will include a stern roller and a hose securing system for fastening of hoses during fluid transfers between vessels and offshore drilling rigs.
In addition, the company will provide fully enclosed lifeboats and associated hydraulic pivoting, and life raft davits, all designed in compliance with the latest SOLAS/LSA regulations and certified by Transport Canada.
High-speed variable speed generating sets
MAN Energy Solutions will deliver six MAN 12V175D high-speed variable speed generating sets for power supply, positioning and propulsion, driving two main azimuth thrusters, a retractable azimuth thruster and two tunnel thrusters.
Lex Nijsen, MAN's head of Marine Europe and Americas, said this setup “will enable the Sea Dragon to perform a great variety of tasks over a wide load-range where characteristics such as seakeeping, responsiveness and adaptability will be key."
Additionally, the vessel will feature two 1-MWh battery packs and will be capable of running on biofuel or a biofuel blend.
Additional subsea projects in the GoM
Recently, DOF Group also secured contracts for two subsea construction projects from two international oil companies in the Gulf of Mexico.
Skandi Implementer, which recently left Mexico following the termination of a contract due to the client defaulting on payment, will handle both programs, equipped with newly integrated survey services and two DOF ROVs.
