Blue Water, Royal Wagenborg team up for North Sea Greensand liquid CO2 carrier

Jan. 14, 2025
Blue Water and Royal Wagenborg will support the INEOS-led Greensand Future CCS development in the North Sea.

Blue Water and Royal Wagenborg will support the INEOS-led Greensand Future carbon capture and storage (CCS) development in the Danish North Sea.

They will work jointly to enable the large-scale marine transport of liquid CO2 to the Greensand Future storage site at the depleted offshore Nini field.

According to Blue Water, transporting the liquid CO2 to the offshore storage site requires a vessel design with suitable intake and station keeping capabilities. Royal Wagenborg will construct a purpose-modified CO2 carrier based on its Easymax design at its Royal Niesterm Sander shipyard in the Netherlands.

The vessel should be completed by the end of this year.

Initially, the Greensand Future project will store 400,000 mt of CO2 per year, rising eventually to a peak of 8MM mt/year.
