INEOS has contracted shipyard Royal Wagenborg to build a new CO2 carrier for the Project Greensand CCS development in the North Sea.

INEOS has contracted Dutch shipyard group Royal Wagenborg to build a new CO2 carrier for the carbon capture and storage Project Greensand development in the Danish North Sea.

The project has already proven the feasibility of secure, cross-maritime border transport of CO2 for injection into the depleted Nini West oil reservoir. The first CO2 injection took place last March.

The dedicated carrier should facilitate large-scale transport of CO2 to the Greensand storage site in the North Sea, INEOS added.
