Fugro says demand fell for its offshore wind services during the first quarter, with its overall vessel use down to 61% compared with 65% in first-quarter 2024.
This was due to a lack of offshore wind site characterization projects in the Americas and also a reduced number of offshore wind developments in Europe.
At the same time, the availability of the geotechnical vessel fleet was lower because of a large number of maintenance days and extended vessel conversions.
The company did secure a contract with SSE for geotechnical surveys to support an offshore wind project at Berwick Bank, Scotland, along with a call-off contract with Vattenfall for UXO identification and clearance surveys for the Nordlicht wind farm offshore Germany.
Other contract successes in the Americas included a geotechnical investigation to support a floating LNG development for Southern Energy in Argentina’s Gulf of San Matias; deepwater geophysical and environmental surveys this summer involving AUVs for Equinor's Bay du Nord project offshore Newfoundland and Labrador; and two contracts with Constellation to provide ROV services offshore Brazil from the Amaralina Star and Tidal Action vessels.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Fugro won contracts for an additional geotechnical site investigation for an offshore wind client in South Korea and a call-out for an underwater inspection campaign on the North West Shelf offshore Western Australia.
New awards in the Middle East included an offshore visual inspection survey in Qatar for Pearl GTL via Shell and an as-built survey for Saipem using an ROV for the offshore pipelines for the Qatar North Field Production Sustainability project.
