Huisman has won a contract to provide two 250-metric ton knuckle boom cranes to COSCO (Qidong) Offshore Co. in China.
They will be installed on the new ST-245-designed offshore energy support vessels COSCO is building for Norwegian shipping company Sea1 Offshore.
The cranes will incorporate Huisman’s active heave compensation system, which connects the cranes’ electric setup to the vessel’s DC grid, leading to efficient interaction with the vessel’s electrical energy storage system, the company explained.
The integration leads to a substantial reduction in energy consumed during offshore lifting operations, Huisman added.
