MIDDLESBROUGH, UK — AV Dawson, owner and operator of Port of Middlesbrough, has signed a 10-year partnership agreement with offshore cable manufacturer Prysmian.

The company first started using the port 10 years ago. It now serves as Prysmian’s northern European marine base.

Under the new arrangement, the company has secured additional warehousing and office space to support further expansion into offshore wind and to accommodate new teams.

Prysmian has also ordered new vessels, which it expects to visit the port regularly to collect offshore wind cables and equipment for installation projects.

One of the vessels will be the large cable-layer Leonardo Da Vinci, which is 5 m wider than any of the port’s other vessels. New wider berth pockets have been dredged to accommodate both Leonardo Da Vinci and the sister vessel Mona Lisa.

Prysmian and other users of the port have also made enquiries about shore power for their vessels.
