STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has contracted AET, a subsidiary of Malaysian shipping group, MISC Berhad, to operate two new DP-2 offshore loading shuttle tankers on long-term charters in northwest Europe.
These will be in addition to the two AET DP-2 ships currently on charter for Statoil in the same area.
Samsung Heavy Industries is building the two twin 125,000-dwt tankers for delivery in 2019. They will operate at Statoil oil fields in the Norwegian North Sea, Norwegian Sea, southern Barents Sea, and on the UK continental shelf.
Both will be built with a fatigue life based on 30 years of operations in the North Sea, and designed to operate in the harshest of weather conditions. They will also have winterization features, high power thrusters, shaft generators and the latest generation of bow loading system, Statoil adds.
The new shuttle tankers will be the first DP-2 shuttle tankers to run on LNG dual-fuel for main and auxiliary engines, Statoil says, with an option to be fitted with a volatile organic compound recovery system.
OSM Maritime Group will provide the lead technical management, supported by the MISC Group, during construction of the vessels.
