SINGAPORE -- COSCO Shipyard Group has agreed with Jiangsu Qidong Municipal Government to expand the COSCO (Nantong) Shipyard Co. Ltd. offshore construction facility. The new yard will focus on construction of semisubmersible and jackup rigs, plus other types of floating vessels.
Phase 1 expansion is scheduled to begin immediately.
The yard, at the Yangtze River entrance and covering 2 million sq m (494 acres) along 2 km (1.25 mi) of coastline, is expected to contain one 120 m x 120 m (394 ft) drydock, two skidways, and eight berths. COSCO says the facility will be able to handle six rigs a year.
