COVINGTON, Louisiana – Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc. says its board of directors has approved plans to build 16 new U.S.-flagged 300 Class DP-2 offshore supply vessels. Delivery is expected to begin during 2013-2014.

The $720-million plan also includes options to build 16 more vessels of similar type.

The 300 Class DP-2 vessels contemplated for this program each features 6,000 deadweight tons and 20,000 bbl of liquid mud carrying capacity. The length and load capacity also make them candidates for conversion into deepwater construction service and for subsea inspection, repair, and maintenance work.

The Company is now in the process of finalizing negotiations with selected domestic shipyards and expects to enter into definitive contracts in the near future.
