VIGO, Spain – Technip (Paris:TEC) has named its newest offshore construction vessel at an unveiling ceremony at the Metalships & Docks shipyard in northern Spain.

Deep Orient will assist subsea construction and flexible pipelay projects.

Technip agreed to initial contracts for the vessel in December 2010. Fabrication and assembly started in mid-2011. After final outfitting and commissioning, sea trials were conducted.

Deep Orient features a 250-metric ton (275-ton) main crane, DP-2 station-keeping capability, two work-class ROVs, and a 1,900-sq m (20,451-sq ft) deck area for storage of equipment. It can accommodate a crew of 120, and is compliant with the latest marine environmental standards.

The vessel will mobilize to Technip’s flexible manufacturing complex in Le Trait, northern France, before performing its first project offshore Norway.
