WINDHOEK, Namibia – A subsidiary of Galp Energia has contracted Odfjell’s semisub Hercules to drill two wells plus optional testing on Petroleum Exploration License 83 in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.

The rig is currently on charter to Exxon Mobil.

According to Galp’s partner Custos Energy, the program should start in fourth-quarter 2023. If no options are exercised, it should last about 115 days including mobilization to Namibia.

PEL 83 is north of Shell-operated PEL 39, which contains the deepwater Graff-1, La Rona-1 and Jonker-1 finds, and north/west of west of PEL 56 where TotalEnergies is currently performing appraisal drilling on its Venus-1 oil discoveries.
