NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, UK — Royston has completed an overhaul of diesel power systems onboard TechnipFMC’s Deep Blue deepwater pipelay and subsea construction vessel.

The 12,000-hr overhaul on a MAN 32/40 main generator took place while the vessel was in transit from Las Palmas to Rio de Janeiro. It involved checking and inspecting critical components including cylinder heads, cylinder liners, pistons and connecting rods, bottom end and main bearings, camshafts and valve gear.

In addition, Royston’s team installed new heads, liners and piston rings and refurbished the air cooler, oil cooler, fuel pumps and pipes.

A full load test followed the service to check the performance of the engine in-line with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Deep Blue can lay flexible flowlines, rigid pipes and umbilicals in water depths ranging from 75 m to 2,500 m.
