ABERDEEN, U.K.—Ithaca Energy has contracted Well-Safe Solutions to plug and abandon (P&A) six wells on the Anglia gas platform, 55 km offshore in the U.K. southern North Sea.
Well-Safe will provide project management, well engineering and associated services, mobilizing the Well-Safe Protector jackup for the program later this summer.
The contract includes an option to P&A a further three subsea wells in 2023.
“We have worked closely with Ithaca Energy to design a contract, which meets their needs and—crucially—those of Offshore Energies UK, the North Sea Transition Authority and other industry stakeholders," said Jane Eddie, Well-Safe’s bid manager. “Our team is uniquely positioned to support Ithaca Energy with their decommissioning obligations, as we are the first U.K.-based company with owner-operated rigs to exclusively perform well P&A operations.”
The company recently acquired the WilPhoenixsemisubmersible from Awilco Drilling. The rig will undergo conversion for well P&A activity and has been renamed Well-Safe Defender.
