ATHENS, GreeceGastrade has signed co-operation agreements for the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal.

These involve National Energy Resources “NER AD” Skopje and AD Power Plants of Northern Macedonia “AD ESM”.

NER AD is seeking to acquire a stake in Gastrade while AD ESM is looking to reserve capacity at the terminal on a long-term basis.

Gastrade is developing an LNG floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) which will be located 17.6 km (11 mi) offshore Alexandroupolis, Greece, and will serve as an energy gateway for markets in southeastern and central Europe.

The FSRU will have an LNG storage capacity of 170,000 cu m and a natural gas supply capacity of over 5.5 bcm annually.

It will be connected to Greece’s National Natural Gas System via a 28-km (17-mi) long pipeline, which will transmit the regasified LNG to Greece, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and a wider region from Serbia and Romania to Hungary, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The project is designed to complement other existing or planned gas infrastructure projects in the region such as the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector, the Greece-North Macedonia interconnector, TAP, the Bulgaria-Serbia interconnector, and the Revithoussa LNG Terminal.
