SINGAPORE – Strategic Marine has delivered a new 40-m (131-ft) fast crew boat to Centus Marine.

The hull form for the 35-metric ton (38.5-ton) dwt Centus Eight, which completed sea trials in January, was developed in collaboration with Southerly Designs in Australia and tested at the Australian Maritime College.

During the trials, the vessel, as witnessed by an independent surveyor, achieved a top speed of more than 30 knots.

It will be deployed to support oil and gas facilities in Malaysian waters, powered by three Caterpillar C32 engines driving fixed pitch propellers and with a tunnel thruster at the bow. It can also perform fire-fighting duties using a remote-controlled water monitor with a capacity of 1,200 cu m/hr (42,378 cu ft).

The aft deck has a clear area of 120 sq m (1,291 sq ft) with deck strength of 2t/sq m protected by crash rails and planked with chemically treated hard timber. Fuel capacity is 70 cu m (2,472 cu ft) with freshwater capacity of 30 cu m.
