HAMILTON, Bermuda – BP Mauritania Investments has notification of a force majeure claim concerning a lease and operating agreement for the FLNG vessel Gimi.

In February 2019, Golar LNG subsidiary Gimi MS Corp. concluded the agreement with BP for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas-condensate development offshore Mauritania/Senegal.

According to Golar LNG, BP claims that due to the spread of COVID-19 around the world, it will not be ready to receive the Gimi on the planned connection date in 2022.

At this stage the oil company estimates the consequential delay caused by force majeure at around one year, and that it is not currently possible to mitigate or shorten this delay.

However, Golar is seeking clarification from the company of how a force majeure event that came to light only at the end of March 2020 could immediately impact the schedule by a year.

The two parties are in dialogue, but in anticipation of the delay taking effect, Golar LNG has started discussions with the vessel converter Keppel Shipyard Ltd. to re-schedule activities in order to reduce its capex commitments for 2020 and 2021.
