MONACO – Imodco has completed a construction program for the Limetree Bay import/export terminal off the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea.

This will accommodate tankers loading/offloading up to 320,000 dwt.

Imodco designed, fabricated, and supplied a large semi-taut system, pipeline-end manifold (PLEM) and umbilicals, a Trelline flexible subsea line from the buoy to the PLEM at 41 m (134 ft) water depth, and driven anchor piles.

The dive support/multi-purpose construction vessel SBM Installer managed mooring and installation operations, including anchoring, drilling and installation of piles and grouting on a 20° slope.

According to the company, challenges associated with the St Croix location included the metocean conditions, a steeply sloping seabed water depth up to 300 m (984 ft), hard soil (30 MPa – equivalent to reinforced concrete), 2 km (1.24 mi) offshore, and logistics issues caused by the lack of infrastructure.

Imodco delivered what it claims was a unique asymmetric mooring solution, along with telemetry and a digital management.

The terminal has received ABS classification.
