OSLO, NorwayTrident Energy has contracted the Noble Venturer drillship for infill drilling at the Ceiba Field and Okume complex in Block G offshore Equatorial Guinea.

The vessel is due to complete its current long-term campaign offshore Ghana in late May, and it will then transfer east to Equatorial Guinea to start drilling operations in June.

Trident acted to secure the drillship after terminating a contract with the Island Innovator semisub in February, citing concerns over safety issues.

Due to the shallower water depth at one of the planned infill locations in Block B, the program will now comprise two infill wells, with the third planned well deferred to a potential future campaign.

According to Panoro Energy, a partner in the block, Noble Venturer will then head to Block S to drill the Kosmos Energy-operated Akeng Deep infrastructure-led exploration well in Block S on a prospect in the Albian, targeting ~180 MMbbl of oil. Panoro has a 12% interest in Block S.

If Akeng Deep is successful, CEO John Hamilton said, “It…can open a new play fairway with potentially very positive read across to the adjacent Block EG-01, which Panoro operates.”
