SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands — Huisman has developed the Harsh Environment Semi-Submersible Drilling Rig, designed to lower emissions and cost reductions.
Features include a low drag electrified robotic drilling system said to provide consistent speed of operation and a heave-compensated drilling floor that is capable of operating in rough seas, leading to increased productivity and rig uptime, according to the company.
The rig’s hybrid power system includes energy storage systems storing regenerated energy, said to lead to a 30% to 40% emissions reduction per well, supported by a 40% reduction of onboard personnel and a large functional deck space.
Power can be supplied from onshore-produced hydroelectricity via a power cable from a nearby platform. Or the rig can be powered by two floating wind turbines moored alongside it.
With the wind turbines, the emissions cut could increase to 86%, the company claims.
Huisman is exhibiting next week at ONS in the Holland Pavilion in Hall 5 at booth 5115-A.
