ABERDEEN, UK  Verlume and Oasis Marine Power have signed a non-exclusive memorandum of understanding concerning electrification of offshore wind farm operations.

They will assess the potential for deploying an intelligent power conditioning and management system with a powered mooring station to create a microgrid interface within a wind farm.

This would enable in-field charging of hybrid and electric wind farm vessels, leading to further emissions reductions over the wind farm’s lifespan, the partners claim.

The intelligent charging system would use available energy while also providing a safe mooring point.

Oasis Marine Power would supply its Oasis Power Buoy offshore mooring and charging station, which has a power source supplied by wind turbines. The concept underwent tests earlier this year in the Port of Cromarty Firth, northeast Scotland, and the program will continue in various locations throughout 2022.

Verlume would contribute its Halo subsea battery energy storage system with an integrated intelligent power conditioning and management system, allowing charging at times of low energy demand from the wind farm.
