LYSAKER, Norway – Aker BP and supply vessel operators Solstad, Eidesvik, and Simon Møkster will install batteries on three ships on long-term contracts.
Previously Aker BP has installed batteries on the NS Orla and NS Frayja, managed by Eidesvik. All Aker BP’s supply vessels on long-term contracts for the company will now operate on battery power within a year.
According to the company, batteries can cut vessels’ CO2 emissions by more than 2,500 metric tons/yr (2,756 tons).
Aker BP has also formed a collaboration with Eidesvik to implement new technology and convert existing vessels to low-emission ships.
