SINGAPOREStrategic Marine has secured a contract from an unnamed major oil company to construct a 12-m (39-ft) workboat to support deepwater projects.

The vessel, due to be delivered in mid-2021, will have special features to ensure operations in demanding operational conditions, the company said.  These include waterjet propulsion to assist maneuvering.

It is designed for launch and retrieval from a larger ship with a single point lifting hook, and will be used for line handling and crew transfer duties.

Equipment will include a 2-t capstan, 5-t tow hook and an open transom. Top transit speed will be 25 knots fully loaded, with room for up to 10 passengers for offshore crew transfers.
