PARIS – Sulzer Pumps UK has contracted GE Power Conversion to supply the motors for four water injection pumps ordered by MODEC for an unnamed FPSO offshore Brazil.

The 8,000-kW, 2-pole motors will operate at 3,600 rpm with a limitation of the starting current at 300% of nominal current. According to GE, this will allow the end user to optimize the generator selection for powering the FPSO.

The vessel, currently under construction, is designed to process 80,000 b/d of crude and 7 MMcm/d of gas, with a minimum oil storage capacity of 1 MMbbl. First production is targeted for 2022.

GE will manufacture and test the motors at its rotating machines facility in Nancy, eastern France, with a full load test.

According to the company, use of a 2-pole design also allows for a smaller frame size and lower weight motor, reducing the space occupied onboard the FPSO.
