ABU DHABI, UAE – Mubadala Petroleum and Eni have signed a memorandum of understanding on co-operation opportunities in the energy transition sector, including hydrogen and carbon capture use and storage (CCS).
The co-operation covers potential joint opportunities in the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and other regions.
Mubadala’s energy transition goals includes pursuing a gas-weighted portfolio strategy – currently its asset base is almost two-thirds natural gas – with the company claiming to have reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% over the past three years.
Eni is working toward a net zero carbon footprint for Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its upstream activities by 2030 and from all the group’s activities by 2040. This will be achieved partly through digital solutions, increased renewables capacity, blue and green hydrogen, and CCS.
Recent initiatives include CO2 capture and storage projects in the UK, and renewable energy projects in Norway, Kazakhstan, and Angola.
