The initial consignment includes the first offshore tower built by the company’s Mexican subsidiary, Windarmex. The factory is located in Altamira, Mexico, and was established in 2016.
Although the facility was initially set up to assemble onshore wind towers, it has since undergone upgrades to accommodate larger dimensions of offshore wind towers.
Windar Renovables claims it is the sole site in the Americas capable of supplying offshore wind towers this size. The factory has can now produce 200 offshore tower sections annually, mainly targeted at offshore wind farms to be installed along the US East Coast.
It can manufacture tower sections weighing up to 320 t, with diameters of up to 8 m.
First shipments to the CVOW project should take place next summer. The development will eventually comprise 176 wind turbines producing a combined 2.6 GW.
