Shell UK has extended Wood’s contract to provide brownfield engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and other services for its UK North Sea and onshore facilities by a further two years.

The arrangement started in 2021. Under the $120 million, cost-reimbursable contract extension, Wood will continue to perform subsea and integrity management for the Nelson, Gannet and Shearwater production complexes in the central UK North Sea, and engineering support for the Shell-operated St Fergus and Mossmorran onshore terminals.

Wood’s scope has been extended to EPC services for the newly onstream Penguins FPSO in the northern UK North Sea. The company will allocate about 240 staff for the full contract program.

To paraphrase from Charles Dickens’ classic work, the North Sea has become a tale of two seas: the UK North Sea and the Norwegian North Sea. The difference is already being manifested in drilling activity and field development plans in the two regions. This difference is largely due to extremely contrasting fiscal regimes and regulatory policies.
