ATHENS, Greece  Construction has started of a natural gas power plant in Alexandroupolis, Greece, which is a joint venture between Greek utilities PPC, DEPA Commercial, and Damco Energy of the Copelouzos Group.

The new facility will be connected to Gastrade’s floating storage and gasification unit (FSRU), which is also under construction.

The partners aim to position Alexandroupolis as an "energy junction" of electricity and natural gas networks, capable of supplying the domestic market and neighboring nations in southeastern Europe.

Equipment that will be installed in the plant is said to be suitable for hydrogen combustion and can operate with mixed fuel.

The combined-cycle power plant, due to be operational by year-end 2025, will have an installed capacity of 840 MW.
