    Sparrows replacing cranes on offshore Middle East platforms

    ABU DHABI, UAE — Sparrows Group has secured a $13-million platform crane replacement from an unnamed company in the Middle East.

    Under the 18-month work program, Sparrows will perform all engineering needed to replace four BOS Liebherr cranes on four offshore platforms, all of which have exceeded their anticipated lifespan.

    The full scope comprises all crane interfaces, installation, commissioning and testing as well as planning for the removal and installation of the cranes using a lift barge, to be supplied by the main contractor, along with the new cranes.

    Sparrows will undertake Phase 1 of the two-phase project onshore at its Abu Dhabi facility and workshop and Phase 2 offshore.

    A local partner will handle structural fabrication, electrical work, public address and general alarm systems, fire and gas systems, and telecoms.
