LONDON – Shell Brasil Petróleo has acquired a 25% stake in the Atapu oilfield in the pre-salt Santos basin, after signing the production sharing contract.
The company paid Petrobras $1.1 billion for the increased interest. Atapu is in 2,000 m (6,562 ft) water depth: production started in 2020 through the FPSO P-70.
Under Brazil’s Transfer of Rights auction, stage last December, Shell acquired rights to volumes from Atapu, in partnership with Petrobras and TotalEnergies.
Petrobras has also received payment of R$14.55 billion ($2.93 billion) from TotalEnergies, Petronas and QP Brasil for a combined 70% stake in the Sépia compensation block, offered under the Transfer of Rights Surplus 2nd bidding round.
Finally, Petrobras’ board has approved the sale of the company’s 90% operated interest in the deepwater Albacora Leste concession in the Campos basin to Petro Rio Jaguar Petróleo for $2.20 billion.
The Albacora Leste field is in water depths ranging from 1,000-2,150 m (3,281-7,054 ft), 120 km (74.6 mi) from Cabo de São Tomé. Production during Q1 2022 averaged 25,400 b/d of oil and 615, 300 MMcf/d of gas. The other partner is Repsol Sinopec Brasil (10%).
