BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil – Saipem has contracted GE Power Conversion to develop the electrical module for the FPSO P-79 for Petrobras’ Búzios field in the pre-salt Santos basin offshore Brazil.

GE Power Conversion in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, is responsible for project management, engineering and manufacturing of the electrical equipment for the module which will be assembled by Wasco Shipyard, Indonesia, and then delivered next year to the FPSO at the DSME Shipyard in South Korea.

The FPSO is due to start operations on Búzios in 2025.

GE’s scope includes the medium-voltage and low-voltage switchboards, motor control centers and high-power transformers.

The electrical module will supply all the distributed energy to power the FPSO, in addition to housing equipment that controls the vessel. It will weigh around 2,000 t, measuring 25 m (82 ft) tall, 22 m (72 ft) wide and 33 m (108 ft) long.

Previously the company supplied electrical modules to six Petrobras floaters operating in the pre-salt area including P-75 and P-77 on Búzios.
