ACF seeking injunction against Scarborough offshore gas project

The Australian Conservation Foundation has initiated proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia concerning the environmental assessment of the Scarborough gas field development off Australia.

PERTH, Australia  The Australian Conservation Foundation Incorporated (ACF) has initiated proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia concerning the environmental assessment of the Scarborough gas field development off Western Australia.

According to Scarborough operator Woodside Energy, the ACF is seeking an injunction to restrain offshore project activities.

Woodside said the development has undergone strict environmental scrutiny by regulators including the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority, the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment and the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority.

CEO Meg O’Neill said, “The Scarborough project is underway and proceeding to schedule after receiving all primary environmental approvals...Woodside will vigorously defend its position in these proceedings.”
